The P.C.M.I. Program and My Research

I recently completed two years of Peace Corps service in El Salvador.  While there, I lived in a small community near Volcan Santa Ana.  I was assigned to work with the geologists at Servicio Nacional de Estudios Territoriales (SNET).  In a collaborative effort with SNET, Michigan Tech and the University of Wisconsin at Madison we designed and implemented a GPS network on and around Santa Ana Volcano and the Coatepeque Caldera.  We used Differential GPS in fast-static survey mode with a 30 second sample rate in an attempt to monitor observable deformation, both volcanic and tectonic.  Based on this project I received my master’s degree in December, 2010.

Because our program has a strong focus on volcanoes in Central and South America it is important to develop a network of information resources that may prove useful during my research and possible service in Latin America
