The 9th Symposium on Educational Advances in Artificial Intelligence (EAAI-19) is pleased to announce opportunities for partial travel support to attend EAAI To apply, fill out the application form by end-of-day on December 18. Some notes:
- Faculty are required to supply a link to a CV (can be a document or a website)
- Students are required to arrange for statement of support from their advisor - this should be sent to the EAAI-19 co-chairs (email@example.com, firstname.lastname@example.org) and must be received by the application deadline.
- Funding will take the form of expense reimbursement. For those that are supported via NSF funds, only those flights that adhere to the Fly America Act can be reimbursed.
- Priority will be given to paper first authors/presenters, paper co-authors and Birds-of-a-Feather undergraduate participants, and poster authors.
EAAI New and Future AI Educator Program Travel Scholarships
EAAI is also pleased to continue the New and Future AI Educator Program for 2019. The New and Future AI Educator Program provides partial travel support for new educators (early career lecturers, assistant professors, and other university or secondary school faculty) and future educators (full-time PhD candidates or postdocs at colleges and universities who intend a career in academia) to attend EAAI-19, co-located with AAAI-19. EAAI-19 provides a venue for researchers and educators to discuss pedagogical issues and share resources related to teaching and using AI in education across a variety of curricular levels (K-12 through postgraduate training), with an emphasis on undergraduate and graduate teaching and learning.
Awardees are expected to participate actively in EAAI-19, and should have an interest in AI pedagogy, adopting new materials and resources for teaching AI, applications of AI to education, and/or becoming involved with the AI Education community. It is not necessary to have a paper accepted to EAAI-19 or be a past participant in order to apply; the New and Future AI Educator Program is intended to include both new and current members of the EAAI community.
As part of the application, potential participants are asked to provide a 400-500 word statement addressing one of the following "blue sky" questions:
- How could/should AI courses incorporate ethics?
- How could/should AI topics be taught at an early undergraduate or a secondary-school level?
- AI has the potential for broad impact to numerous disciplines: how could we make AI education more interdisciplinary, specifically to benefit non-engineering fields?
- How can we create a more inclusive AI/AI Education community?
The blue sky response should be framed as if it were a section of a paper on education. Selected participants may have the opportunity to present their ideas on these topics briefly during EAAI-19, or to include their response as part of a larger paper.
