When Can External Flashes Be Used?

The internal and/or external flashes may not be used in certain shooting modes. The following table is a summary. The first and second columns show the menu names and options. If an N shows in an entry, it means the corresponding flash cannot be used even though the internal flash is raised. Note that if more than one options are active, those N's supercede the Y's! For example, if options Wide Adapter and BSS On, then none of the flashes can be used even though the former alone allows the external flash to fire. Similarly, if you wish to turn off the internal flash but let the external flash active, you can use Continuous High and any other mode with a N and Y combination in the table.

Mode Options Internal Flash External Flash

Continuous Continuous High N Y
