Connecting an External Flash

The Nikon Coolpix 950 and 990 has a multi-flash synchronization terminal for the use of external flashes. In addition to Nikon Speedlights SB-28, SB-26, SB-25, SB-24, or SB-22s, many Nikon AF compatible flashes could also be used without problems. But, check your flash manuals first. To use an external flash, a Multi-Flash Bracket Unit SK-E900 is required.

The SK-E900 consists of two parts, a SK-E900 Bracket and a AS-E900 Adapter. One end of AS-E900 is a hot-shoe to be installed on the lower part of the bracket (below left) and the other end should be screwed into the flash terminal on the camera (below right). Note the orientation of the hot-shoe. The two-dot end must be facing you so that the installed flash light can point forward. Note also that the flash terminal has three bins, and, as a result, when screwing the AS-E900 into the flash terminal, align these bins properly.

The next step is screwing the bracket into the camera's tripod hole (below left). Then, install your favorite Speedlight flash unit (below right). The one shown here is a Nikon Speedlight SB-28.

The AS-E900 hot-shoe has two more flash terminals that can be used to connect two more flash lights for multiple flash photography.
