Developing the Huron Creek Watershed Management Plan

Near-surface geology is generally consistent across the Huron Creek watershed.   The depth from ground surface to the surface of bedrock varies, but is relatively shallow or outcropping.   The bedrock mainly consists of basalt, which is of volcanic origin (igneous rock).   This geologic formation has been found to have a significant amount of fracturing, which can have considerable affect on hydrologic flow patterns and surface water infiltration rates.   These basalt formations are also mineral-bearing, and have been the mainstay of historical mining activities.
