The
existing stream outlet is unnaturally mechanical and discourages a healthy
biological connection to Portage Lake. The outlet cannot be
seen from the waterway side of the coal dock.
A
close up view of the outlet structure during high spring flows. Notice
the exposed geo-textile and the yellow city road block located over
a sink hole in the bank.
|
A
sinkhole that forms near the outlet structure for Huron Creek is the
result of subsurface soil loss from around the old coal dock. Sinkholes
are an annual occurrence and are regularly filled with mine rock.
