IMPROVING THE WATERFRONT PARK: THE PARK CHANNEL SEGMENT

Developing the Huron Creek Watershed Management Plan

To address the side slope erosion and unattractiveness of the geotextile fabric lining the banks of Huron Creek through Waterfront Park it is recommended the western side slope on the creek be decreased and the channel be narrowed.   A shallower side slope would encourage stream interaction with a more nature appearance.   As the sketch depicts, the shallow slope would have native vegetation planted near the top and small stone/gravel adjacent to the stream.   The small stone/gravel can be alternated between the two sides of the stream to create a meandering affect.   The steeper side slope would have the fabric removed and replaced with large rock/riprap to maintain slope stability.   Because the Waterfront Park was topped with fine sand; it is also recommended that the side slopes have a soil transplant from the existing sand to a soil capable of sustaining plant growth and withstanding heavy rain events.
