In
the waterfront park, sediment carried in the stream settles out in the
pond. The build-up of this sediment creates a need for constant
maintenance, with the city periodically using heavy equipment to remove
the sediment that accumulates.
The
sediment here is mainly from early erosion problems with the banks.
These erosion problems prompted the city to stabilize the banks. |
A later
view. Notice the cut bank on the downstream side of the pond.
Also note that there appears to be a child squatting on a sand
bar in the pond. |

High
spring flows can cause problems at the pond. Note the flow
over the right side of the concrete sill. This flow results
in erosion of this bank and has historically been a problem point
of Huron Creek through the park.
