MANAGING VEGETATION AND WETLANDS: OBJECTIVES

Developing the Huron Creek Watershed Management Plan

The objectives of this section of the WMP are to address areas of concern relating to vegetation and wetlands within the watershed.   Issues relating to vegetation may include the following:

•  Establishment or improvement of vegetation in the riparian zone

•  Control of invasive plant species within the watershed

•  Protection of endangered plant species (if any are identified/located)

Issues relating to wetlands may include:

•  Protection of wetland areas that remain within the watershed

•  Maintenance and improvement of wetland mitigation sites within the watershed (Wal-Mart)

Action plans to be implemented that will address these issues may include an invasive plant species removal and maintenance plan, a plan for stream bank stabilization through establishing native vegetation, an endangered plant species protection plan and a plan to maintain wetland quality throughout the watershed (native and mitigation wetlands).   Timelines and proposed budgets/funding will be provided for each action plan. Ideally, public participation and/or education will also be incorporated.
