FACTORS AFFECTING WATER QUALITY: TRASH

Developing the Huron Creek Watershed Management Plan

During the winter months, scattered amounts of trash collect along the snow-covered streambank, which accumulates further year round.  In addition to being aestheticly objectionable, this trash and litter can contribute to poor water quality.    The buildup of material and contaminants released as it breaks down can also createe a poor habitat for plants and animals.   The simple solution to preventing problems associated with this source of contamination is to discourage littering and to collect trash that accumulates.
