FACTORS AFFECTING WATER QUALITY: STAMPSANDS

Developing the Huron Creek Watershed Management Plan

The remains of stamp sand piles are located throughout the watershed.   There is no evidence that these stamp sands are releasing metals or other harmful containments into the creek.   One concern is that the condition and stability of these mounds can change, with biological activity and exposure causing the release of copper, iron, and other metals.  Long term monitoring of water quality would detect any significant changes.
