Color display of Schlumberger soundings across a branch of the San Andreas
Fault near Desert Hot Springs, California. The data were interpreted using
Zohdy's algorithm which assumes one layer per data point. The
vertical lines of crosses indicate the locations of the layer
bottoms. The deep low resistivities are associated with ground-water. There
are actually two faults in the cross section comprising a horst-like structure.
The conductive ground water forms updwells on the eastern side of
the structure on the left of the figure , flows over the structure
and forms somewhat of an underground waterfall and into the deeper basin
to the right.
