Summary: (by Karl Engel via cassiel@ix.netcom.com via www.imdb.com)
"A business man is often approached by friends
for advice and help regarding marriage as well
as family and romantic relationships. He is
always very calmly and objectively able to give
great insight and assistance to these particular
situations. However, when it comes time for him
to be objective regarding his oldest daughter,
he finds it very difficult..."
My Comments:
Nice and watchable, the main issue has some hints
of Fiddler on the Roof with regards to changing
times. As for the father, he reminds me of
"Guess who's coming to dinner" (when someone says
he is concerned only about the daughter's happiness
...).
First released in 1958, it is Ozu's first film in
color. The movie contains some of Ozu's
classic shots and direction. The story is quite
universal... mostly about changes in generation.
