GE5950 Geophysical Inverse Theory

Spring semester 2014
3 credits

Description and scope of the course: This course will address the theory and application of inverse theory to data modeling. Emphasis will be placed on geophysical data and methods including seismic tomography, moment-tensor inversion, and geodetic data inversion. The course will be computationally intensive. Students should be familiar with a computer programming language (such as Fortran, C, C++, etc.); familiarity with Matlab is preferred since much of the course work will be done in Matlab. Students will each complete a term project, that may be related to their research.
