Calculators/computers: You may use calculators and/or computers on homework. All labs will require use of the computer. Calculators may or may not be allowed on hour exams. The decision will be announced in class. The final exam will include a non-calculator part and a calculator part. Read the Department of Mathematical Sciences calculator policy to find out which calculators and/or features are allowed. The Department recommends the TI-89 graphing calculator.
Lab projects: All students are expected to do the lab projects and hand in lab reports. These are team projects (teams of two or, rarely, three students), and both members of the team will receive the same grade. Both members of a team should share equally in the work involved with the project. Copying of lab projects from other teams is considered cheating and will not be tolerated. Information about labs and lab projects is available from your lab instructor or from the mathlab web page. You will need to go to the mathlab web page to register for your lab. The MA2160 labs are scheduled during the day on Thursdays or Fridays. All lab reports must be submitted by 10 p.m. on the Wednesday following the lab.
Midterm grades: All first-year students will receive midterm grades. The midterm grade will be based upon the first exam grade.
The final exam will be a comprehensive final exam that will be a common exam for all sections of MA2160. It will be made up and graded by all instructors teaching those two courses. At least 35% of the final exam will be done without calculators. No early final exams will be given.
