The Cu mines of the Keweenaw followed layers that were rich in copper. These were originally flat-lying but were tilted along with the layers above and below. At the Quincy Mine the productive horizon was the Pewabic Amygdaloid, and the fluid transport to this horizon was stimulated by the Hancock Fault which is part of the local context and also part of the Keweenaw Fault disturbance.
To the right is a sketch map of the adit entrance to the Quincy Mine that is publically accessible through the KNHP and the Quincy Mine Hoist Association. The map shows the Pewabic Lode and the Hancock Fault.
Sketch map of Quincy Mine and surrounding area. Projection of the mined out areas of the Pewabic Lode are shown as stippled, and shaft positions are plotted, along with the surface traces of the Hancock Conglomerate, the Pewabic Amygdaloid and the Allouez Conglomerate.
