Huron Creek Falls

2012

Huron Creek is a small river which has been pushed around and ignored by man as it flows through the western part of the city of Houghton. Here the river is downcutting into the lava flows of the Portage Lake Lavas in the stratigraphic horizon where conglomerates also occur.  At this site, in spite of the rerouting of the river at places up and downstream, there is a brief stretch of the river as it used to be, a reminder that in urban settings refreshing preservation of natural sites is important to the public.  A picnic spot is to be developed here.
