All operations of the Coolpix 990 are handled by a piece of software built into the camera. This program is usually referred to as a firmware. A new version of firmware not only eliminates some existing problems, but also introduces certain improvements. Therefore, knowing the version of the firmware being used is important.
To determine the version of firmware, hold the MENU button (see above figure) and turn on the camera. The LCD monitor should display a message as follows:
