Text:
Finite Elements: Theory, fast solvers, and applications in solid mechanics
by Dietrich Braess (3rd Edition)
Objectives:
This course introduces Finite Element Methods to solve elliptic Partial Differential Equations.  This course will be more analytical (it is inherent in the method) than most other numerical courses I teach.  We will cover the first half of the text and sections (depending on interests etc.) from the second half of the text.
Reading:
Reading is assigned in each class meeting to be completed before the next class. Since the lectures will typically focus only on highlighting the main points, it is critical that you do this reading to pick up important details and ask questions about points that are unclear.
Homework and Code:
Homework and some coding exercises will be assigned.
Exams and Projects:
There will be numerous homework and programing assignments during the semester.
