I can't breathe:
SISters Samantha Fenetres stood with other community members to protest
the killing of unarmed black men in the country in 2015.
My Life Is not a Joke
In November 2015 a Tech Student posted on Yik Yak that he was "going
to shoot all black people" on campus.
SIS member Emerald (Kelly G) Gary along with SISter Christina (Georgia
Peach) Welch were among the leaders of a protest
march from campus to the courthouse to protest that the student was
only charged with disturbing the peace. There was also a moment
of silence around the Husky statue to protest this behavior. Tee
shirts were worn saying "My life is not a Joke."
Matthew Shultz was arraigned
on 6Nov2015.
2Dec2015 Chargers were later dismissed by the prosecutor. Emerald
was the main organizer and the moderator of a panel on the climate
on campus (ppt) (pdf), and SIS
advisor Faith (Covalent) Morrison was on the panel, which used study questions devised by Emerald's committee.
Emerald's invitation by email to
serve on a panel 2Dec2015.
